A very lucky £105M winner made an interesting choice: He decided to keep working instead of living a luxurious lifestyle...

Months after his jackpot win, Steve still works as a builder – After his win the builder promised not to let his customers down: but for what reason?

The new multi-millionaires told the Mirror newspaper after their win that they would take a couple of weeks holiday but intend to continue working. Thomson called the Jackpot win ‘really overwhelming’, which is very understandable. Steve and his wife Lenka say the money is ‘too much’ for them. The couple want to do a lot of good things with the money and, in his own words, Steve is going to be ‘sensibly generous’, he goes on to say he was ‘on the verge of having a heart attack’ when he realised he had matched all seven numbers after his win!

Mr Steve Thomson and his wife, shopworker Lenka, 41, said they plan to buy a new home so their children 8-year-old daughter & two sons aged 10 and 15 can finally have their own bedrooms. He also said the couple had made no big purchases as yet, just window shopping – although he did admit he went and bought himself a new shirt and had a haircut for when he was presented with the cheque.

A friend and neighbour of the family, Ellie Wood, 42, said: ‘Steve and his wife are salt of the earth. I’m not surprised that Steve is continuing to finish off work he had already on his books – that’s just the type of guy he is. He’d never leave anyone in the lurch’.

‘I’m just a normal guy and I don’t want this to change me. I’m a man of my word and I promised I would complete the work so that’s what I will do.’ While he was working on a customers porch, a neighbour enquired about having a new front door fitted at their home too. ‘Steve was happy enough to take on new work and made an appointment to visit the man’s address,’ an onlooker said.

Single father won £1 million on the lottery still showed up to work as chef on Christmas Day. Dedication or what?

Didzis Pirags, 36, is a chef who won £1m on an online scratch card. He still turned up to work his shift at a pub on Christmas Day. Despite his huge win, the single father still needed to finish his shifts on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and over the weekend.

Pirags was taking his lunch break at the Hungry Horse Pub in Preston, Lancashire, on Saturday when he bought his winning ticket. He logged into his National Lottery account to use the £6.50 he had left over.

He began to play the Merry Millions Instant Win game in his flat above the pub.

“The first thing I scratched off said £1m.The nanny was there and I said ‘could you look at it, could you look at it please, I can’t believe it, is that £1m?'”

He also had to confirm with his boss because he was still in disbelief.

The winner says the money will allow him to provide the “best possible life” for his five-year-old son. He will be able to spend more time with his son, since he works 60 hours a week.

He hires a nanny to look after his son. Pirags completes regular 12-hour shifts, including at weekends, meaning he can only spend time with his son a couple of evenings a week.

Mr Pirags said he did not spoil his son over Christmas but bought him some headphones as an extra present. He revealed his win on Friday. The winner has bought a four-bedroom house for £280,000 with his money. Furthermore, he plans to buy a new car and give his current car to a friend.

Frances and Patrick Connolly from County Down won the lottery jackpot in the New Year’s Day draw. The lottery winners explain they will be sharing the winnings with their family and friends.

When Frances and Patrick Connolly realized they had won a £115mEuroMillions jackpot, they sat in silence and stared at each other for 10 minutes. They then made a cup of tea.

The £114,969,775.70 prize makes the Connollys the fourth-biggest UK lottery winners in history. The win puts them in Northern Ireland’s rich list. They currently rent a terraced house in the village of Moira.

So began a new life for the couple from County Down in Northern Ireland on New Year’s Day. This is after scooping one of the biggest UK lotteries wins in history.

They went public with the news on Friday at a press conference outside Belfast. The Connollys announced they would share the prize with 50 friends and relatives.

“This is a massive sum of money and we want it to have a huge impact on the lives of other people we know and love, as well as on our future,” said Frances Connolly, 52, a teacher. “This win gives us the chance to really make a difference for our family and friends.”

“We couldn’t believe it!”

Patrick Connolly, 54, a businessman, said his wife “nagged” him into buying a ticket. He did buy a ticket online on 1 January, choosing the lucky dip option that selects random numbers. He did so without much expectation since the couple had never won more than £10.

Before going to bed, he checked the result and found they had the winning numbers. The numbers were 01, 08, 11, 25, 28, with lucky stars 04 and 06. He rechecked four times – “I was sure it was a scam” – before telling his wife: “I think I’ve got some good news for you.”

She did not believe him when he said they had hit the jackpot. “A couple of expletives later, which I’m trying not to say in front of you, I said: ‘It must be a joke.’ He said: ‘I wouldn’t joke about that.’ Then we just stared at each other for 10 minutes.”

They have been together for 30 years and have three daughters, one aged 30 and twins aged 24, and three grandchildren. One of their three daughters is in New Zealand doing a master’s degree. She is traveling home and, during her stopover, has upgraded from a hostel to a modest hotel after the win.

Frances Connolly said the couple had always been happy, but the win would make them a “hell of a lot happier”. She expected the limelight cast on them by their good fortune to fade. “There are no skeletons, there are no dirty pictures, there is not enough to keep us in the public eye,” she said.

This could be the year for you (if you’ve got a Euromillions ticket)! Players are being urged to check their tickets to see if they have become the fourth-largest lottery winner in the country. One UK ticket-holder has won £114.9m in the New Year’s Day EuroMillions draw.

In a sensational start to 2019, the lucky Briton has become the fourth-largest lottery winner in the country by winning the Euromillions jackpot.

A further 10 UK players won £1m in a special draw held on Tuesday night.

Andy Carter, senior winners’ adviser at The National Lottery, has urged players to check their tickets.

“See if they are a big winner and can turn 2019 into one long celebration”.

The numbers from the EuroMillions draw were 01, 08, 11, 25 and 28, while the Lucky Stars were 04 and 06.

A couple of weeks ago, a British man won a £76m EuroMillions jackpot after sitting on a winning ticket for six weeks.

Andrew Clark, a 51-year-old from Lincolnshire, had a pile of unchecked tickets in his van – and the builder’s family had urged him to check them after hearing about the unclaimed prize on the news.

Recalling the evening he found the ticket, Mr Clark said…

“I finally gave in, got the bundle out of the van and started to work my way through them, methodically from the oldest to the most recent, starting with Lotto, before moving onto my EuroMillions tickets.

“You might say I was slightly winding up Louise.

“I certainly didn’t expect the wind up to end with me saying ‘I’ve done it, I’ve won £76m’

“I won’t say what she said in response!”

In July 2011, Colin and Chris Weir became the biggest lottery winners in the UK – and across Europe. They scooped more than £161m.

Adrian and Gillian Bayford, from Suffolk, took home more than £148m in August 2012. Furthermore, the biggest prize awarded in the country in 2018 was £121m, handed to an anonymous winner in April.

Man dies three weeks after winning $1m in the lottery. Donald Savastano was planning to use his winnings to pay off some debts, purchase a new car and visit the doctor.

Sadly, a man has died of cancer less than three weeks after winning $1m (£700,000) on the lottery.

Donald Savastano was just 52-years-old when he passed away over the weekend. He had recently been diagnosed with stage four cancer, according to an obituary on the Dignity Memorial funeral services website.

Ms. Scott said a friend of his came and told her that Mr. Savastano was very ill in hospital.

She said: ”He was self-employed, he didn’t have insurance, he hadn’t been feeling good for a while I guess, and when he got the money he went to the doctor”.

“He was very sick and that he had brain and lung cancer and that he was in the hospital and they didn’t think he was going to make it.”

She added: “I just wish he had more time with it.”

His death came less than a month after he became a millionaire after picking a winning New York Lottery scratchcard at a shop in his hometown of Sidney, a small community around 170 miles north of New York City.

He was planning to “buy a new truck, pay off some debt and invest for the future,” with his winnings.

He added: “This is going to change our lives to tell you the truth”.

Born in Queens, New York Savastano grew up on Long Island. He became a carpenter after working with his father as a child.

Furthermore, his obituary said that he worked for commercial companies. Then, after moving to Sidney, he managed to carve out a successful career as a self-employed carpenter.

“He was known for his high-quality work and perfectionism,” reads the obit. “He always tried to reach out and help those he could by teaching them ‘the right way to do things’”.

Hopefully, you will have more time with your winnings. Make the most of the time you’ve got. Play the lottery at Welovetto today.

If you win a big lottery jackpot in the new year, here are three ways to really beat the odds — by making sure your winnings don’t go to waste.

The only strategy to win the lottery is luck, with no unspoken secret to show you the light. However, if you do win big, there are clear rules experts suggest you follow and traps to avoid. Here are just three ways to make sure your winnings are kept safe and a guaranteed happy new year,

Keep your lottery winnings a secret

The first thing that experts recommend winners do is to keep quiet. “I would recommend not telling people,” says Nick Holeman, a certified financial planner at Betterment. “I wouldn’t necessarily go broadcasting it to the world.”

Holeman says that coming forward too early can lead to hasty decisions and can make lottery winners targets of crime and greed.

Lottery winners typically have three months to present their ticket, but they often come forward much more quickly.

For instance, when Mavis L. Wanczyk of Chicopee, Massachusetts, won the $758.7 million Powerball jackpot earlier this year, she spoke with the press in less than 24 hours.

Take things slow

Experts also suggest not making any rash life changes. The CFP Board of Standards says nearly one-third of lottery winners eventually declare bankruptcy and lottery winners are more likely to declare bankruptcy within three to five years than the average American.

That’s often because winners can become reckless with their newfound wealth. In order to avoid a harsh fate, lottery winners should not make any hasty decisions.

That is why former social worker Sandra Hayes maintains a frugal lifestyle even after winning a $224 million Powerball jackpot with a dozen of her coworkers.

“I know a lot of people who won the lottery and are broke today,” she said. “If you’re not disciplined, you will go broke. I don’t care how much money you have.”

Be clever and strategic

Powerball winners are able to collect their winnings as a lump sum prize or in a series of payments over 30 years, known as an annuity. Holeman says the annuity is the smart choice.

“If you get a huge lump sum, it’s easier to make a mistake, whereas if you choose the annuity, then at least if you mess up and blow the first year’s worth, you have another chance.”

Jim Cramer, on the other hand, thinks the lump sum option is the right choice, arguing that you want to put as much money as possible to work for you as soon as possible.

“Take the money all at once,” the CNBC “Mad Money” host said. “Don’t let them string it out like that. You want the time value of all that cash working for you. That’s vital.”

No matter which you choose, thinking strategically can help you avoid making the same mistakes of winners past.

Make sure you make the right decisions in the new year, not just if you win big. Happy New Year!

A spectacular year for EuroMillions players will reach its climax in fitting style tonight. Great unique prizes will be up for grabs. The jackpot is worth £33 million (€37 million), while there will be ten guaranteed winners of the UK Millionaire Maker.

Special EuroMillions Event

Special EuroMillions events take place from time to time to mark exciting occasions. The UK National Lottery has decided to offer more prizes of £1 million in the Millionaire Maker this Friday to celebrate the final draw of 2017.

Usually, there are two prizes of £1 million in standard Millionaire Maker draws. However, on Friday, ten winning codes will be selected at random. A ticket holder doesn’t need to play differently – a code will be generated for every EuroMillions line played and will automatically be entered into the Millionaire Maker.

If you match one of the ten winning codes drawn on Friday, you will have 180 days to claim your money. Online players will be automatically notified of any prizes they win. Furthermore, anyone who plays through a retailer must check their ticket and then contact National Lottery officials.

A Magical Year

Any big winners tonight can look forward to a fantastic 2018 and possibly beyond. They will receive enough money to provide financial security for loved ones and splash out on wonderful new items.

It has certainly been a year to remember for players across Europe, with millions of prizes given away. There have been 21 jackpot winners so far, including three lucky players who have scooped more than £100 million. However, the biggest winner of 2017 was a Spanish ticket holder who equaled the record for the largest EuroMillions jackpot. They pocketed €190 million on Friday 6th October.

You can try to become the 22nd jackpot winner of the year. Buy a ticket from an authorized retailer in one of the nine participating countries or choosing EuroMillions numbers online. Good luck!
